GIGS Career Placements

GIGS (Graduate-Intern-Gap Year-Sandwich) Career Placements

A Graduate-Intern-Gap Year- Sandwich Career Placement is the perfect way to gain skills and experience for your chosen career.  We work with Gap Year students, Year in Industry students and Graduates, helping them find quality employment in Kent.  We work specifically on behalf of local students and our services are free of charge.

Our aim is to find you employment specific to your chosen degree and market your CV accordingly.  We have a bank of employers that contact us when vacancies arise, whilst continuously marketing our services to create links with as many new companies as possible.

Placements typically last between 3 to 12 months.  All our placements are paid (not voluntary), allowing you to earn money whilst developing your skills and gaining valuable experience.

In order to be eligible for the programme, you must fulfil all of the following criteria:

  • Be a resident in Kent or attend a university in Kent
  • Have a high standard of education, we normally expect A* to C passes in core GCSE subjects and three passes at A-level (or equivalent qualifications)
  • You have evidence of the right to work in the UK - A passport or other travel document to show that the holder can stay in the UK and this endorsement allows the holder to do the type of work the employer is offering if a work permit is not held.
  • You must be under 25

What we can offer you:

  • Increased chances of finding worthwhile employment relevant to your degree and interests
  • Access to unadvertised jobs in both the public and private sectors
  • Expert advice on breaking into an increasingly competitive job market
  • A friendly, individually tailored service
  • Ongoing contact and availability for advice and support
  • Valuable experience and skills to add to your degree
  • The opportunity to apply theory to practice

An internship may be of interest if you are looking for work experience.  At up to 13 weeks, an internship offers more flexibility than a placement.  You will have the opportunity to work on a specific project within Kent County Council, gain experience and have something substantial to add to your CV!  Internships are unpaid, but you will receive £20 per day to cover your expenses.
