Overview

Dartford has a rich and varied heritage with many notable buildings including Domesday churches and royal residents. Dartford is situated 20 miles to the east of London on the bank of the river Thames, between the boroughs of Bexley and Gravesham. Originally a Roman settlement, Dartford is an old market town with a rich industrial heritage. Paper making and cement production were major industries in the area for centuries, and many technological advances in production were made by companies here in Dartford.

Dartford also boasts the QE11 The Dartford - Thurrock River Crossing is one of Europe's most heavily used crossings and complex traffic management systems. Spanning the Thames between Dartford and Thurrock, the crossing forms a vital link in the M25, Britain's most important orbital road.

Leisure and Retail

There are big plans for Dartford town centre. The Council's ambitions for the town include new leisure opportunities such as a new bowling alley, replacement swimming pool and possibly an ice rink. Supporting features such as cafes, restaurants and bars are also in the Council's sights – part of its plans to restore Dartford as a centre of commerce and leisure.
